Everything All The Time

About

Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

Submit your work to be featured!

Also check out the EVRT Studio newsfeed and visual stream on Tumblr.

From the perspective of being an in-house designer:

Boss: “We want to use the name Auburn as our mass market name, but spelled A U B E R N instead of the traditional.”

Me: “Why the E?”

Boss: “If we spelled it with a U, we wouldn’t be able to sell our products in the south because of those people’s hatred and rivalry with Auburn University.”

Me: “You are kidding right?”

Boss: “No.”

I submitted this one. Yeah, this happened….. and it has to deal with storage & organization products.

» Take a peek into Matthew Lyons' brain

Alex posted this over at ISO50 this morning. It is always great to get a peek into the creative process of a designer.

Scenic Motel by Evan Huwa
I’m always a sucker for retro inspired art, especially if it involves old motel signs. Evan is a promising young designer, so I was happy to post this illustration he recently created. Click through to go to his tumblr blog to see more work.

Polenta, Mushroom Ragu & Poached Egg by Working Class Foodies
I had no idea this site existed until I asked for submissions, and man am I glad I was introduced. Working Class Foodies is a web series created by siblings Rebecca & Max Lando, with a goal to use fresh local ingredients and keep a low budget per person.
If you have any interest in cooking, you must check this out. The recipe above definitely got my attention, and polenta is very easy to make.
(thanks to rebecca for sending this over)

DJ Shadow / Changeling

A long song but one of my favorites from him.

(Have a good weekend! I’m clocked out. Thanks for your submissions already: I’ll start getting to those on Monday.)

» Submit your work!

I’m finding less and less time to hunt down interesting things for this blog, the more personal work I take on to build up EVRT Studio. Yet I really want it to grow into something big. It has already grown to a size I had not expected, in Tumblr terms anyway. What I mean by that is I have a strong following from other Tumblr bloggers of 2300+ people. But there are only about 60 people subscribed to the RSS feed, outside of Tumblr. I want both numbers to grow, and the amount of readers have doubled in the last 6 months.

In order to keep this blog alive and growing, & take on more personal work, I’m calling for open submissions of your work. Based on the running theme of “everything all the time”, this could be anything from illustration, fine art, photography, architecture, industrial design, music, etc.

Keep in mind not all submissions will necessarily be featured, and I will most likely continue to limit posts around 2 - 4 per day to not overwhelm so folks can really focus in on the featured work. You can click this link to go to the submission page, or there will be a link on the main page I am adding shortly.

Colville Lake by Graham Robinson
This Canadian artist’s work is really refreshing. I personally can connect more with his subject matter. It makes me want to go back to my childhood of camping, hunting & fishing.

72 Musicians / A KC area music documentary

A lot of amazing bands come out of the KC + Lawrence area, and someone finally decided to make a film about it. Bob Moczydlowsky put this together, at first keeping the location of where the film was taking place a secret, later being revealed as KC. Several bands performed live on film as well as 72 musicians were interviewed, openly talking about their experiences in the music biz.

This is screening this Sunday at the Screenland Armour Theatre @ 7pm. Also The Caves and Olympic Size will be playing live. I’m a big fan of Olympic Size, and they alone are worth seeing.

Even if you are not from KC this trailer is worth watching. You can also download the soundtrack for free by visiting the site.

Wired magazine gives us a preview of what the digital magazine designed around the iPad might look like. It is a really great in-depth view of interaction with the iPad. I have to say I am seriously impressed. I already love the printed version of Wired, but this digital interactive version just blows my mind. Talk about changing the face of magazines: I think we get to see a preview here of what is to come for the publishing world.

(by the way, keep an eye out for how the user flips through the pages: with a simple flick of the thumb, even though it is on the far side of the touch screen)

Letting Up Despite Great Faults / In Steps

I’m really enjoying the whole album from these guys. Just enough beat to keep me interested, but not so much that I can’t listen to it in the morning.

EXO2 Case by EXOvault
This seems to be channeling Dieter Rams, and I have to say it is definitely the best looking iPhone case I have seen yet. Though it may not be the most practical, if I had an iPhone or iPod Touch this would be at the top of my list.
EXOvault is a low volume, high quality artist run company, creating a product with those advantages in mind. Avoiding the mass produced look.
Machined from solid aluminum stock in two parts, with a rosewood insert. Other finishes available, such as black, red, brass, etc. The version for the iPod Touch is slightly different. Made in Brooklyn.
