fromme-toyou asked: Hey Darlin. I was wondering, with your CB2 prints, your latest holga shot specially, do you have them professionally scanned or do you do it yourself? For the poster size they are printing how large do you have it scanned at? Do you experience problems with the lightness or darkness in a scan or with dust spots?
I scan them myself on a flatbed, which granted, probably isn’t the best thing in the world. But until I’m making enough money selling prints to quit my job, that is how it will have to be I’m afraid. Otherwise, I would definitely have someone else scan them, and probably with a Drum Scanner to get the best quality. I scanned them at 4800, which is as high as my scanner goes optically. Keep in mind the print at that size (which at full size is actually a 52” square because of the wrap) is not at 300 dpi. But it is somewhere in between 200 and 300 if my memory is serving me correctly.
The flatbed definitely has trouble pulling extreme darks and lights, but works OK for the most part. If you were showing something in a nice Art gallery, you probably should use a film scanner at the very least. Dust isn’t too big of a problem as long as you just work in a clean environment.
