Everything All The Time

About

Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

72 Musicians / A KC area music documentary

A lot of amazing bands come out of the KC + Lawrence area, and someone finally decided to make a film about it. Bob Moczydlowsky put this together, at first keeping the location of where the film was taking place a secret, later being revealed as KC. Several bands performed live on film as well as 72 musicians were interviewed, openly talking about their experiences in the music biz.

This is screening this Sunday at the Screenland Armour Theatre @ 7pm. Also The Caves and Olympic Size will be playing live. I’m a big fan of Olympic Size, and they alone are worth seeing.

Even if you are not from KC this trailer is worth watching. You can also download the soundtrack for free by visiting the site.

Hyperdoodle Journal & Robot Keychain by Maura Cluthe (Fragmented)
Maura, better known as Fragmented, a local Kansas Citian designed these for Hallmark last year, and they should be in your local Gold Crown store now. I have tons of sketchbooks and notebooks alredy, but I’m trying to find an excuse not to buy this one.

Book: Adventures Under Fire! by Albert C. Henke (pictured above)
Looking through old photos of WWII bombers, I had completely forgotten that I meant to post something about this book a long time ago. Albert kept a secretive personal journal of 50 missions he flew as a gunman on a B-17 during WWII. For a good portion of the missions he was the tail gunner, on the last plan positioned in the pack.
Maybe that doesn’t sound that interesting, but to me it is mind blowing. First off, imagine this one person keeping a secretive diary (which was seriously illegal: if caught he could have been thrown in prison for treason) of 50 air missions, and living to tell the tale. Plus, being the tail gunner he was the first thing enemy planes shot at!
Anyway, this is a great book to own. It is hard cover, and includes scans of his original journal, plus other items. I bought my copy at Rainy Day Books (click through) and it is hand signed by Albert himself. He grew up around KC, and now lives in Shawnee. You can read more about him & the book here.
I’m seriously hoping they make a movie about this one day.

I love Genghis Khan. I could eat there every day…  Guess who has the biggest bowl! I actually got a comment from someone behind me in line today: “dude, I am seriously impressed.” And with unlimited access to Crab Rangoon, who can go wrong!

The Next American Dream / Documentary film about downtown KC!
I had no idea this was happening: somehow it slipped under the radar. Take Two Entertainment & Inland Sea Productions have made a documentary about the revitalization of downtown KC. I’m setting my DVR right now.
Click through to go to the site to see the air dates; the first of which will be Oct. 8th, @ 9pm on KCPT. There is also a short trailer on the site, and it really looks promising; not just another shoddy low budget production. You can also read about the story on the KC Star website. You can also read an additional story from Dwell Magazine that was written in 2006 about the KC downtown area.
When you think about, we are starting a backwards trend. The downtown areas of cities used to be the main attraction. Then somewhere along the lines, malls and other suburban attractions, along with highways and interstates were built, causing downtowns to die out. Now they are being revitalized all across the country and becoming the center again. It is a nice thing to see, and KC has truly done an amazing job, if not one of the best jobs!
