Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

72 Musicians / A KC area music documentary

A lot of amazing bands come out of the KC + Lawrence area, and someone finally decided to make a film about it. Bob Moczydlowsky put this together, at first keeping the location of where the film was taking place a secret, later being revealed as KC. Several bands performed live on film as well as 72 musicians were interviewed, openly talking about their experiences in the music biz.

This is screening this Sunday at the Screenland Armour Theatre @ 7pm. Also The Caves and Olympic Size will be playing live. I’m a big fan of Olympic Size, and they alone are worth seeing.

Even if you are not from KC this trailer is worth watching. You can also download the soundtrack for free by visiting the site.

Tree House by Hufft Projects
First off, this is an absolutely amazing home, and it is right here in Mission, KS. Secondly, this is a firm to watch. They are award winning, yet young and masterful at the same time. Somehow I had overlooked them, and this is my first look at their work. Seriously impressive stuff. More proof that great design does occur in the Midwest. (photography by Mike Sinclair)

I ran into Mike’s website yesterday by accident. He is a photographer here in Kansas City, and his work is really fantastic. You should especially flip through his site, and check out his personal work including the series “fairgrounds” and “popular attractions.”
Mike is also a great architecture photographer, and works a lot with El Dorado and Helix. Click through for his site.
He also has a great print for sale over at 20x100

I just finished this off. Boulevard really does make some of the best beer I’ve had. Their Smokestack series is phenomenal. Probably my favorite beer is either a Wheat or a Stout. Anyway, this Double Wit (a Belgium wheat) was excellent. And the label is pretty awesome as well. The yellow is a stamped gold foil.

Kansas City’s Oklahoma Joe’s makes it onto Anthony Bourdain’s 13 places to eat before you die list. That’s right, our little gas station gem is on the same list as fancy French restaurants. See you there…

Without a doubt, my fav BBQ in town. I actually haven’t eaten at this location yet, and have been meaning too.

I was skimming through sitespire today, as always, but was surprised to find a feature of Robert Comire, an illustrator from KC. I have kept track of his work since I moved to KC, but he has a newly updated site. Click through to see his work.

Finally, I was able to upload photos of the almost completed AMC Mainstreet Theater.  It is going to be really cool!  Helix Architects did an amazing job (I will give them credit where credit is due: architects / architecture firms never get credit).
Hope you enjoy the photos, even if you are not from Kansas City

» Marquee + AMC Mainstreet Theatre Sneek Peak

Friday night I ate at the Marquee: the bar & grill that is part of the AMC Maintstreet Theatre. Decent food, it is pretty much your average affair, but very affordable which is always good in my book.

Anyway, at some point in time I’ve got photos to share of the almost completed theatre, if I can squeeze in some free time from work.  I hate Mondays….

My favorite concept logo, out of many, designed for a local startup home floral business.  I hope they pick this one, but you know how that goes…  they never pick your personal fav.

Olympic Size - I’d Rather Die

This song is hauntingly beautiful.  Olympic Size is a local KC band I’ve posted about before.  They deserve a lot more credit than they probably get.  Billy and Kirsten also helped me get into the KC art scene, and really get me motivated to do more work to get EVRT Studio off the ground.  So I owe them a lot.

Billy is also in Roman Numerals, another awesome KC band
