About

Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

A look inside the offices of Blu Dot
The blog “Where We Design” gives us a look inside Blu Dot: one of my favorite furniture companies. As if I wasn’t a big fan of their company before, now I can only stand still with my jaw flapping in the wind in the awe of what it must be like to work here.
Click through for more, and also check out the full blog of “Where We Design”, unless of course you cannot handle the jealousy that will ensue.

Power Plant Addition by Brückner & Brückner
(photos by Constantin Meyer)
Here is a seriously impressive looking addition to a German power plant. I’ve always had an interest in power plants because of their industrial nature, but now I wish more power companies would take a serious look at their architecture after seeing this. Instead of an eye sore, this is now a thing of beauty.
Equally impressive is the architecture photography by Constantin Meyer

Sumaré House by Isay Weinfeld
Built for a graphic designer in São Paulo, this house is impressive. I mostly like it for the proportions and combination of different textures going on from the outside: concrete, wood, and the grid work. Plus that giant shelving pictured in the photo on the right is making me drool.

Annie Residence by Bercy Chen Studio LP
A really great simple, boxy residence: reminds me a little of the Eames house, and mid-century styling. The open courtyard with water feature is key here, and really adds to the dimension of this home. Plus I really like the use of color. I like clean minimalism, but I personally have to have a splash of color, which this house greatly achieves. Plus, how can you ignore that awesome glowing garage?

Stitched Table by Uhuru
Uhuru is making a lot of waves in the furniture world, since its founding in 2004. Their products are generally made of recycled materials, environmentally friendly materials, and to top things off are handmade to order. Built in Red Hook, Brooklyn
The Stitched Table is pretty amazing; combining a giant slab of Walnut with Seafoam green steel base and “stitches” holding the slab together. It seems to be transcending Nakashima, but in the more modern sense.

90 years ago, the Bauhaus school was formed. It was one of the first Design schools in existence. Only open for a short 14 years, it managed to produce some of the most influential and iconic Designers & Architects in history: that we often still make reference too even today.
For this celebration of history, Architonic has made a list of available of products still in production (or brought back into production) for purchase. I don’t even want to ask how much they cost, but they are amazing to see.

Kemper Residence by William S. Beckett
Unfortunately, I missed out on the tour of this house, hosted by KC Modern. But you can have a look through the full set of photos here. I am completely jealous of the landscaping around this house. Click through for more info, and a tour.

I wish I could find half a Mini to put on my kitchen wall…
Small collection of Scandinavian kitchens.  If only my kitchen looked half as good as any of these…

I love the giant numbers on lime green on this house.  I would do this to my own house, except my neighbors would kill me.

A few days ago I was talking about the Red One and Vedros Studios.  That very night I got home from work, the new Dwell was waiting for me, and ironically on the cover was the house that is across the street from the Vedros Studios.  Kansas City makes it on the cover of Dwell yet again.  Modern architecture in this city is booming.  If you are reading this and you are an architect looking for a job, KC has so many prospects for new architecture that all of the firms in this city cannot keep up with the demands.  My wife works at Helix, and I love talking with her about all the cool stuff they are working on.  I wonder sometimes if I should have been an architect…..
