Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

I saw “Inglourious Basterds” this past weekend and loved it. All of the actors did amazing, and Mélanie Laurent was no exception. The cinematography was amazing, and I was completely impressed with everyone speaking German so well. Now why couldn’t Tom Cruise and the rest of the “Valyrie” cast have used at the very least, a German accent?
Anyway, go see this movie!

The Informant! trailer. Slightly chubby Matt Damon + Mustache = Win

I didn’t plan on today being all about movies, it just happened.

Public Enemies

I also saw Public Enemies this past weekend, at the downtown Mainstreet Theatre. Over all, it was a great movie. Depp’s performance is amazing (not unexpectedly). Bale’s performance is weak, but I think that is because his character was not written very well.

It is definitely worth seeing. However, there is one factor throughout the movie that drove me crazy. It was shot in digital, which I don’t have a problem with, but the editing is horrible. At times I actually felt like I was watching the unedited behind the scenes DVD features. I understand if they were trying to keep it looking “raw” but it really looked laughable in certain scenes. A lot of highlights had heavy chromatic abberation, and extremely blown out hightlights. The entire film was shot with hand carried cameras as well, which isn’t necessarily bad, but hard to get used to.

Still worth seeing though.

Away We Go

Last Thursday I saw “Away We Go” at the Glenwood Arts theater. First of all, if you ever have the chance to see a movie at this theater, go. I hope they keep this around for a long, long time.

Secondly, I went to the movie expecting I would like it a lot, but I didn’t expect it to be one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Extremely heart warming and real, yet funny and great acting all at the same time. Go see it before it is out of the theaters.

At last, a trailer for The Pacific, the follow-up to Band Of Brothers. Very exciting. Makes me want to go home and watch Band Of Brothers and The Thin Red Line simultenously … which probably isn’t a very good idea, sanity-wise.
I had no idea they were making a follow-up to Band of Brothers. This is going to be amazing, and I am really looking forward to it.

Andrew Linstrom at Well Medicated points out the fact of not only are the movies in the Criterion Collection of course amazing, but what is even better is their box art.  Here is a small portion of the collection.

» Smart People

I watched smart people this past weekend, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you must.  A lot funnier than I really expected it to be, and the soundtrack is really really good.  Thomas Hayden Church steals most of the scenes, but Dennis Quad really did an amazing job with his character.
