Everything All The Time

About

Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

Pleated Star Clock by George Nelson & Associates
For the Howard Miller Clock Company, 1955
(estimated $2000 - $3000)
Occasionally I like to glance through the Wright auction archives and upcoming auctions, to dream about the things which I will never own. It also reminds me of why I love Mid Century design so much.
Most people think of the Eameses when they hear the word “Mid Century”. I love Charles & Ray as much as the next person, but sometimes people focus on them too much. There were so many designers from that era whose names are briefly heard anymore. You can see what I’m talking about by clicking through to the Wright website, and flipping through some of the auction lots.

Smoke by Bevk Perovic for Vertigo Bird
Even though these have been passed around on the blogging circuit already, I wanted to post them. To me, these capture the attention of a child-at-heart like myself, yet remaining simple and modern. Would look great in a kid’s room also.

Hyperdoodle Journal & Robot Keychain by Maura Cluthe (Fragmented)
Maura, better known as Fragmented, a local Kansas Citian designed these for Hallmark last year, and they should be in your local Gold Crown store now. I have tons of sketchbooks and notebooks alredy, but I’m trying to find an excuse not to buy this one.

Soil Cutlery by Vladimir Rachev
You might not guess it, but I have an obsession with plants and gardening. It is one of the reasons I could never live without having a yard. Vladimir used basic gardening tools as his inspiration for this line of cutlery. It is genius. This is something I would definitely love to have around for lazy summer weekends with family.

Recycling Frame by Matteria
A simple and great idea. Something I definitely could use, considering how many times I forget to take my reusable bags to the store with me, which leaves me with a stock pile of Whole Foods paper bags.

Emotion Lab
A new design studio from Barcelona cranking out fresh home goods. I especially love the simple use of materials, and a combination of natural wood color + bright colors. The left image is a coat rack which mimics the old TV antennas people had for their homes, which I think is really unique. The right image shows a shelving system that is quick to install and adjustable. So far this studio’s work look very promising.

Hang On by Thomas Alken for PP Møbler
Thomas always wondered what could be made from the waste scraps of wood, left over from creating the PP Møbler collection. Hang On takes advantage of that waste wood. The unique thing is the wood color comes from whatever scrap they have at that specific time in the shop. So you might get a variety of colors. Plus you can put it together yourself with no glue or hardware.
Personally I’m always researching organizational products since that is what I design on a daily basis, and this ranks up there with one of the more well thought out products I have seen. It is simple, to the point, and uses leftover wood that is already being paid for in the manufacturing process. Plus it just looks damn good….

Sarus Series by David Weeks for Ralph Pucci
Mr. Weeks took his inspiration for the series from the shape of the Crane (which is clear). It resulted in a very simple form, but elegant. Constructed of powder coated aluminum and nickel plated steel, in Brooklyn, NY.

Basic Series by StokkeAustad & Frost Produkt
The two Norwegian firms mentioned, collaborated to create a sleek line of home / kitchen products. Here is the Wine Decanter, Glass, and Water Carafe from that series. Nothing Earth shattering, but really great forms. Which is alright with me.

A little retro stereo console I just got off craigslist tonight. There is a turntable inside that still works, although I won’t be using it. Check out that awesome logo!

Amazing. I was in an incredibly divey bar in Brooklyn about four months ago, saw a speaker just like this with the cane mesh and attempted to take photos of it without getting mashed by the mosh pit. Someone should bring this back, STAT or I will.
It is funny you should say that. I’ve been thinking the same thing: that someone needs to be making furniture like this again. I’ve got a whole list of ideas if you want to talk. I even have some Solidworks models of some stuff I was messing around with.

Grilling Spatulas

I just landed a gig designing some outdoor grilling spatulas for a company. If anyone has complaints or thoughts on current spatulas, or ideas to make them better….  leave them here. I would like to hear from you, and I think it will be interesting to let my blog readers in on the process. Now is your chance to possibly have that amazing spatula you always wanted. :)

Wood Block Seating by Judith Seng
The seating premiered at the London Design Festival. What a great combination of textures and color. I would buy one of these in an instant. Or I just might try to make my own.
