Everything All The Time

About

Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

This is a great new tumblog, featuring old photos of kids dressed up in wacky super hero costumes. Worth a look anyway…

Sorry to do this to you, but I wanted to post this once again. I posted about the new blog on Friday, but Tumblr was a ghost town. Anyway, last time I promise….

The KC Tumblr Meetup was awesome last night. Thanks to everyone who came. Michelle should have been in this photo as well, but we waited a little too long to take this photo.
I don’t think any of us had the slightest idea of what we were getting into by choosing to meetup at the Cigar Box, with lounge singer and Crooner, Mr. Al Latta. Needless to say, the women had a GREAT time being serenaded the entire night. Click through to see a few photos of Matt belting out “Friends In Low Places”, and Jackie having a serious moment with Mr. Latta.

News + Thank You’s

This will probably bore most of you to death, but I just want to say a thank you to all of my followers. I never really had any plan for this blog, other than to share stuff that interested me, and once in a while share personal work. I now have over 700+ followers which sort of blows my mind, and it seems to be steadily growing. I hope it keeps growing, and I thank you.

Also a quick thanks to Sabino for previously mentioning my blog, and a nice little email. I appreciate it.

I would say the thing I have enjoyed most about having a blog is the community of people. But also this blog and watching other peoples blogs/work has motivated me to create more work beyond anything else probably.

In other boring news, I finally gave up on building my own custom website. I just don’t have time. Plus with a regular day job + freelance work + I actually like to have a life, it was not going to happen. I was getting an hour or so every 2 - 3 weeks, and when you don’t know web development, that is not enough time. So I signed up for a Cargo account, and it is just a matter of time to go through my work and upload it.

As far as Tumblarity goes, the only thing I really care about is this section above, and really only the two sections on the right. I like to keep my original content up as high as possible, versus reblog. I am now also realizing my post count is ridiculously high, for me anyway. I’m spending too much time blogging. Right now (with this post included) I am posting 8 new posts per day.
What this basically translates to is you are going to see a lot less posting from me. I will most likely cut the new posts per week by half, so about 4 posts a day or  probably less. And things will stay fairly serious, since this blog is tied to my website. I know that sounds boring and no fun.
This mostly stems from the fact I have a very long list of things to do, as far as EVRT Studio goes. Business has been picking up, and I have been taking on more work and gaining a few more serious customers. Having my own business and design company is something I have dreamed about for a long time. It is not something I just ‘want’ to do, but ‘will’ do: it is only a question of how long it takes me to get there.
I started this blog for two reasons: (1) to archive and share with others the things that inspire me (2) to promote my work. It has been a great ride so far and I have received numerous emails from people with very kind words, which I cannot even begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed. When I signed up for Tumblr I didn’t even know what a reblog was, or what it meant to follow someone. And if it were not for the community of followers and followees I have built up, I would not be sticking around here as much as I do. It is an addiction hanging out with all of you.
Two things on my list to finish in the very near future are complete my new website and open an online shop. I have enjoyed creating custom art on huge stretched canvases, but with the recession came a lot of problems: people are just not willing to pay the un-godly amount of money it costs to ship a large stretched canvas (except retailers, thankfully). So with my online shop I am going to offer a large assortment of much more affordable things from illustration, photographs, wood block prints, etc. All of this eventually leading up to furniture and product design.
With that said, this has become a much longer post than I intended. As of last night I finished up a ridiculously long two weeks of preparing my next presentation to CB2. So I am in great need of a quick getaway of sorts. Tomorrow morning I am off to St. Louis to sign prints at the factory, and spend the rest of the day being lazy in Forrest Park. Have a great weekend!

Like vs Dislike

I’m happy Tumblr has included the ability to “like” a post from someone.  It has cut back on reblogging.  The thing that probably annoys me the most from watching other people is when they choose to reblog so they can comment on something or include a personal conversation.  If you want to have conversations with your Tumblr friends, please use a Disqus comment box or something.  It’s like getting a dirty joke in your email, and there is that one guy who decides to hit reply all instead of reply and write something corny or inapropriate and makes everyone else feel awkward.  I think we have all either been that person on accident or witnessed it at some point in time.

A friend of mine sent out a joke once that included a girl on the list of “to” he had recently been hanging out with.  She hit reply all and revealed some very personal stuff about what happened the night before.  I’m sure she was never the same. :)

Anyway, I wish Tumblr also had a “dislike” feature for each post.  Sort of like a Pandora thumbs up or thumbs down rating.  Maybe it could help filter out future posts which included tagged words or something.  Or at least a “hide” feature for the posts you don’t want to look at anymore.

Anyone else have some thoughts about this?

Tumblr MP3 Player

dankantor:

Anyone that knows me knows that the first thing I do with new technology is figure out how to make it play music. So it makes sense that a week-or-so in to my Tumblr blog, I would create an mp3 player for it. So here is my first stab at it. You can see it in action at the bottom of this blog.

To include it on your page, follow these directions:

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Click Customize
  3. Click Theme
  4. Enable Custom HTML
  5. Copy the script code below:

<mce:script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://static.streampad.com/streampad-tumblr.js” mce_src=”http://static.streampad.com/streampad-tumblr.js”></mce:script>

6. Paste it before the closing head tag, like so:

streampad tumblr setup

7. Click “Save Changes”

That’s it! This will enable visitors to play back all your posts in most recent order. They can skip ahead, pause, and click on the link to go directly to the post page.

Please leave any feedback in the comments section. Thanks!

This is a really great feature.  Now I just need to skin it to match my blog.
