Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

72 Musicians / A KC area music documentary

A lot of amazing bands come out of the KC + Lawrence area, and someone finally decided to make a film about it. Bob Moczydlowsky put this together, at first keeping the location of where the film was taking place a secret, later being revealed as KC. Several bands performed live on film as well as 72 musicians were interviewed, openly talking about their experiences in the music biz.

This is screening this Sunday at the Screenland Armour Theatre @ 7pm. Also The Caves and Olympic Size will be playing live. I’m a big fan of Olympic Size, and they alone are worth seeing.

Even if you are not from KC this trailer is worth watching. You can also download the soundtrack for free by visiting the site.

Wired magazine gives us a preview of what the digital magazine designed around the iPad might look like. It is a really great in-depth view of interaction with the iPad. I have to say I am seriously impressed. I already love the printed version of Wired, but this digital interactive version just blows my mind. Talk about changing the face of magazines: I think we get to see a preview here of what is to come for the publishing world.

(by the way, keep an eye out for how the user flips through the pages: with a simple flick of the thumb, even though it is on the far side of the touch screen)

Non Plus One

A short film by Gia Coppola & Tracy Antonopoulos to celebrate the grand opening of Opening Ceremony’s new Ace Hotel shop. Starring Jason Schwartzman & Kirsten Dunst with music by Coconut Records (Jason Schwartzman).

It seems more fitting to be classified as a music video for the song “Is This Sound OK” by Coconut Records, but either way, it is an interesting few minutes that is worth watching.

It is a rare occasion when I post a video, but this one was sent to me by my wife and I was taken back by it. It was created for the AARP U@50 contest, and placed second. Written by Jonathan Reed, after reading this little speech it is then read in reverse (sentence by sentence that is) and gives a completely opposite meaning.

The message given when read in reverse has a great message. It is probably why I have such a hard time working for other people: I just don’t care about work that much :) I probably should have moved to Europe

“Here’s Where the Story Ends” by The Sundays, from Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic, released 1990.

How great was this single?

Note: it is entirely possible I turned into a girl during the early 90’s. Pretty sure I changed back, though.

Oh man…. I love The Sundays. I was avoiding posting any music from them, because then I might be perceived as overly feminine. I found them when I was in high school, and fell in love with their third album.

Judging by how sparsely their albums are spaced, I still keep hoping they might one day resurface and make another record.

Here is a time lapse video of Kiel Johnson making a giant cardboard replica of a TLR (Twin Lens Reflex camera for those non-photographers). You have to watch, if you are interested in cameras at all. Now I want to make one myself….

You may already be familiar with Alberto Cerriteño’s illustration work, but if not you should have a quick look through his site. Here is a portion of a video he recently completed for Brian Vogan, and it is pretty amazing work. You can also see the full length video here

Addam’s post yesterday reminded me of my honeymoon in Costa Rica. I wish I could go back. Enjoy the trip, you will love it.

Here is one of the 6 lines on our zip line tour we took. This was the highest line, and the Arenal Volcano is on the left (later that night we watched lava flow down the side of it). The guide took this video for me.
