Multidisciplinary Inspiration

With so many great categories of design, it is hard to just focus on one. Which is why this blog will focus on a little bit of everything: architecture, furniture, product design, illustration, various artists, etc. Curated by Brian Everett of EVRT Studio in Kansas City

EXO2 Case by EXOvault
This seems to be channeling Dieter Rams, and I have to say it is definitely the best looking iPhone case I have seen yet. Though it may not be the most practical, if I had an iPhone or iPod Touch this would be at the top of my list.
EXOvault is a low volume, high quality artist run company, creating a product with those advantages in mind. Avoiding the mass produced look.
Machined from solid aluminum stock in two parts, with a rosewood insert. Other finishes available, such as black, red, brass, etc. The version for the iPod Touch is slightly different. Made in Brooklyn.

Parrot AR Drone
Scott over at ISO50 just posted about this thing this morning, and I had to mention it here even though it is outside of my normal content. This is a Quadricopter, or basically a hover craft of sorts. If that isn’t cool enough, you control it with your iPhone! And to top that off, there is a camera mounted to the front that gives you a first person view while you fly it. I have to admit, after watching the video I cannot believe how smooth and accurate this thing is. Now I HAVE to get an iPhone, just so I can buy this.
Do yourself a favor and click through to their site, and watch one of the videos.

Dreamsurface app for iPhone
This looks like the perfect little app if you already use your iPhone as your alarm clock. Nice interface.

Cool Augmented Reality app that helps you find a quiet place to work. It reviews noise level, power outlet availability and coffee quality (if it’s a coffee shop).

Not out for the iPhone yet, but coming as soon as “Apple offers the full support for AR that countless developers are waiting for.” Stuffy office? Who needs it. :)

So I understand the value of looking up a place to work before traveling there. It’s like reading reviews on Yelp before dining at a restaurant. What I don’t understand is the Augmented Reality part. If you are close enough to a place that your camera phone can see it, can’t you just walk in and see how loud or crowded it is? Why do you need an app for that?

Soon enough, our iPhones will be living our lives for us. There will be an app that allows you to communicate to the person sitting next to you. One that tells you if your food is still too hot to eat. And when it is time to go to the bathroom….

This is a staggering collection of data for iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android app purchases. As it turns out, iPod Touch users buy the most apps. But what I find the most staggering, is the monthly paid app market share! Look at those numbers…

» Retro Auto iPhone Illustrations

I went well over my personal allowance for posting today, but this was too good to pass up. iPhone wallpapers from Neal McCullough. I love them all, but the best one is not pictured: the Ford Mustang

We’ve seen some flip clock apps (and screen savers) before, but this one is new and completely awesome. Click through for a video and here are more images. FlipTime 1.0 from Omletworks.

I don’t have an iPhone, but if I did I would surely buy this game immediately.  Anyone else remember Oregon Trail?

iPhone

I’m the last person on the face of the planet without an iphone.  I’m due for a phone upgrade in 1 month, and I’m thinking about getting one.  The thing that may keep me from getting it though, would be the fact you are required to buy the $30 a month data plan with it.  I wish it wasn’t required….
